From Jim Fenton/GateHouse News Service: Celtics will see familiar faces when Timberwolves visit Boston for a Sunday matinee
Their 11 a.m. tipoff today sends coach Kevin McHale and players Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes and Sebastian Telfair back to Boston and, of course, reunites the Wolves with the greatest player who ever wore their uniform: Kevin Garnett.
That could make this a strange day in Boston, where the opposing coach and the Wolves’ returning players could get a reception similar to the standing ovation Garnett received for his Minnesota homecoming.
If nothing else, it shouldn’t be dull.
“It’s going to be a little bit different,” Gomes said. “Especially me and Al being drafted there, we have a lot of relationships with a lot of people there. Now we’ll have one of their all-time great players coaching on this side, so I’m sure there will be a lot of electricity in the building.”
Few were surprised when the Minnesota Timberwolves fired Randy Wittman as head coach following a 4-15 start to the season. But Kevin Garnett would not have predicted Kevin McHale taking over for Wittman.
“It’s funny to see Kevin McHale as coach,” Garnett said. “He always said he wasn’t into that. But that shows how things change.”
