Wolves Updates 2/21

The Timberwolves’ decision to deal Rashad McCants to Sacramento in a four-player swap and not to make a more significant move were their first personnel moves since Kevin McHale lost his front-office title and duties and went back to the coaching bench more than two months ago…
According to Taylor, general manager Jim Stack worked the phones with other league executives, assistant general manager Fred Hoiberg assisted and provided college-scouting advice regarding trading or acquiring draft picks, McHale and executives Rob Babcock and Zarko Durisic offered their opinions.
“We talked about a lot of stuff, but at the end of the day, Glen still is the final decision-maker for the organization,” McHale said. “I’m too busy with this [coaching] to burn the phones, but we all sat down and talked. We ended up doing this [the McCants trade]. There were a few other things that everybody just felt really didn’t benefit the team and a lot of stuff just dried up, as it always does with trade deadline.”
McHale offered his best wishes to former first-round draft choice Rashad McCants, who was traded to the Kings along with center Calvin Booth.

“I think Rashad really felt that he needed a change and it just didn’t work out for him,” McHale said. “It’s too bad. I wish Rashad all the luck in the world and all the good wishes. Hopefully, a change of scenery will be good for him.”

Ollie returns: Veteran point guard Kevin Ollie scored two points in nearly 17 minutes in his first action since suffering a fractured and dislocated left elbow in a Jan. 3 game at Chicago.

The newest Timberwolves, Shelden Willliams and Bobby Brown, arrived in town this afternoon, took their physicals, found their Target Center lockers and….won’t suit up to play tonight.
Williams still has to get some sneakers before he can practice with his new teammates starting tomorrow.
For Minnesota they did get some size in Shelden Williams, but this make two teams that have passed on Shelden, Minnesota will likely try and make things work, but its unlikely Shelden moves the needle for the Wolves. Bobby Brown is the best part of the deal for Minnesota, they get a guy that could be a meaningful player if given the minutes.
