Wolves Updates 6/2 Part 2

President of basketball operations David Kahn said after this morning’s pre-draft workouts that he’s willing to listen to trade offers for any of the choices, including the sixth overall selection.

“You never say never to anything,” Kahn said. “We would listen to anything, of course. But by the same token, I’m not out there on the phone shopping them. It’s a little early for that still.”

Kahn said it’s likewise too early to gauge teams’ interest in that sixth pick or the Wolves’ other two first-round selections, Nos. 18 and 28.

But that’s not to say there hasn’t been some early buzz.

“What we’re hearing especially is there are a lot of teams that have interest in buying picks towards the end of the first round,” Kahn said. “I think you’ll see a lot of that.”

Tubby Smith showed up at Target Center this morning to watch Kentucky guard Jodie Meeks work out on the second of four workout days that have drawn representatives from 20 NBA teams.

North Dakota State’s Ben Woodside, from just down the interstate in Albert Lea, is in this afternoon’s session. I’ll be working out in that cozy Target Center basement gym for Larry Bird and Danny Ainge, among others, will be just a bit different than hooping it up at Valley Park or the Y back home.

Tomorrow morning is when things should get really interesting. That’s when guards Eric Maynor from VCU and Jeff Teague from Wake Forest — two point guards the Wolves will strongly consider if they’re still available at the 18th pick — come to town to work out in a group with Texas forward Damion Jones, Georgetown forward DaJuan Summers, Notre Dame forward Luke Harangody and Saint Joseph’s forward Ahman Nivins.

Workout React:
–Goran Suton could be an option for the Wolves in the second round. The 6-10 Suton looked strong and showed range out to 17-feet. Minnesota would draft the PF/C to add depth to a small frontcourt.

–Greivis Vasquez nailed 3-point jumpers with ease. The Maryland point guard needs to improve defensively but you have to love his attacking style on the offensive side of the floor. Vasquez offers versatility with his 6-6 height and ball handling skills.

–Paul Harris was the most physically impressive player out of the morning session crew. If Harris can make the adjustment to shooting guard, he could be a lockdown defender off the bench for Minnesota.

–Jodie Meeks is a pure scorer as he proved to have a smooth stroke from the perimeter on Tuesday. Meeks scored 54 points against Tennessee this past season. The Wolves could snag a potential offensive threat late in the second round by selecting Meeks.

From NBADraft.net: Jeff Adrien Interview:
Who have you worked out with so far?

I’ve worked out for the Portland Trail Blazers, Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat, and then in Houston it was a three team workout with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Memphis Grizzlies and the Boston Celtics.
