From Sportando.net:
DKV Joventut Badalona president Jordi Villacampa admitted that Barcelona asked news on Ricky Rubio but did not do any formal proposal to acquire the player.
“I had a contact with Barça but they did not make a formal proposal” said Villacampa. “The options for Rubio are: to finish his contract with us, to move to Real Madrid or Barcelona or to go to US. The management of Minnesota is sure that Rubio will play for them next season” added Villacampa.
I’ve been told that Ricky Rubio wants to have his plans for next season finalized by the end of the month
Now the Telfair deal is less troublesome. President of Basketball Operations David Kahn acquired a decidedly sub-mediocre 34-year old backup point guard with an expiring contract in a trade with Oklahoma City the other day, and in terms of short-term tinkering, it was a savvy swap. Unlike the departed Telfair, Atkins shouldn’t and won’t have any illusions that he is the best long-term answer for the Wolves as a floor general. And because he knows that whatever precious few meal tickets he has left in this league will be contingent on him being a selfless teacher who doesn’t make waves, he should be able to help Jhonny Flynn and (if he’s here) Rickey Rubio with the ways and means of point guard challenges in the NBA.
From Brian Kamenetzky/Los Angeles Times: Kurt Rambis feeling Minnesota?
Assuming the Wolves are willing to meet Rambis’ basic contract demands, whether he’d take the job would have much to do, I would think, with how likely Rambis feels it is he’ll replace Phil Jackson when the Zen Master retires. Personally- and this is based on casual conversations over the years with players, media, and other people around the team and league but NOTHING that would be considered “inside” information on the organization’s thought processes (i.e. I’m speculating)- I feel the longer PJ stays on the sidelines, the more likely it is Rambis gets passed over for Brian Shaw. It’s possible Rambis feels the same. Certainly there’s no guarantee Rambis would get the job, even if he sticks around. Do you take the bird in hand, if it’s offered?
What B-Shaw is missing, more than anything, is experience on the sidelines.
