A good league source tells me new Timberwolves coach Kurt Rambis has chosen two notable names to supplement top assistant coach Dave Wohl on his staff:
Bill Laimbeer and Reggie Theus.
That’s a staff certainly with some name recognition now.
New Timberwolves President David Kahn has made a third trip to Barcelona, Spain, to try to get the team’s top draft pick, point guard Ricky Rubio, to play in Minnesota this season.
Kahn is meeting this weekend with Rubio and his DKV Joventut team, which has received a $5.3 million contract buyout offer from the Regal Barcelona team, to support Rubio’s family in making a decision.
Accompanying Kahn on this trip is a friend of Wolves owner Glen Taylor who was raised in Spain and understands the culture.
If Kahn can’t get Rubio to Minnesota this year, and time is running out, it appears Rubio will end up playing in Spain for two more seasons, then come to the Timberwolves via a less expensive buyout…
