Wolves Updates 10/2

From Jonah Ballow/Timberwolves site: Thursday Training Camp Report

The players continued to learn the nuances of the triangle offense and worked on defensive drills in Mankato. With the first preseason game around the corner, the coaching staff is looking to add more to the playbook in the next two days.

Three days into training camp at Bresnan Arena, there have been no alarming setbacks or developments to make Rambis and his staff rethink their preference for Flynn as the starting point guard. The No. 6 overall pick in the draft is getting a daily education, but his willingness to listen and learn is making the process much easier.

“His personality and the way he gets along with people is a real plus,” Rambis said.

Flynn said he has yet to have any embarrassing moments, but the former Syracuse star quipped: “They will come.”

Al Jefferson played one game of Thursday’s night scrimmage and then watched the rest with a gigantic ice bag taped to each leg. Coach Kurt Rambis called it a precaution to ensure Jefferson’s surgically repaired knee remains pain-free.

Point guards Jonny Flynn and Ramon Sessions played together for the first extended time in a scrimmage. “We wanted to see what it looked like,” Rambis said. “It didn’t look great, but that doesn’t mean anything.”

Kahn has to extend qualifying offers to Brewer, Kevin Love and Oleksiy Pecherov by Oct. 31 or they’ll become unrestricted free agents next summer.

He, of course, called the Love decision a “no brainer” and said this about Brewer, who will be paid $3.7 million in 2010-11 if the team exercises his option by Halloween:

“I think I need to visit with the coach and I think we need to watch Corey play this year,” he said. “It’d be hard for me to fathom as we speak today that we don’t pick Corey up as well (as Love). But we’ve got all month to think about it.”

Wolves signed Hart, who has played for seven different teams in eight NBA seasons, both to see what he has left on the court and what wisdom he can impart to the team’s two young point guards in a role similar to the one Kevin Ollie filled last year.

“I’ve seen the highs, I’ve seen the lows,” said Hart, 31. “I’ve seen a lot in this league.”

The Minnesota Timberwolves have chosen Hunt Adkins as its agency of record, the team announced Thursday.

Hunt Adkins, based in Minneapolis, will help rejuvenate the Timberwolves brand through strategic development, traditional and non-traditional advertising, interactive advertising, and year-round initiatives. The Timberwolves cited Hunt Adkins’ work for the Minnesota Twins’ “Get To Know ‘Em” campaign as helping them chose the firm.

Mankato businessman Glen Taylor has seen his net worth fall $1.1 billion in the past year — a trend found among other billionaires on the Forbes richest people list.

Taylor is ranked as the 147th richest person in America with a net worth of $2.2 billion, according to the new Forbes list.

He fell from 123rd place in 2008 when his net worth was listed at $3.3 billion.
