Babcock confirms Datsyuk not playing tonight. Cleary is in. That is only change.

Babcock said Howard starting tomorrow.

The obvious big news here is with Pavel Datsyuk not playing tonight. It seems as if the Jackets are catching a few breaks recently with their opponents missing key players. Jimmy Howard is in this evening who has been playing stellar this season. Nyquist and Zetterberg are obvious players to look out for but I would also keep a close eye on the Helm-Jurco line, who will more then likely be matched up with the Anisimov line. That line’s speed should cause matchup problems all night and could possibly take advantage of the Jackets weak bottom six.

Fair amount of activity today in Blue Jacket land. The Jackets activated Matt Calvert from injured reserve and will not be in the lineup this evening. The Jackets picked up an interesting puck moving defensemen Kevin Connauton off waivers from the Dallas Stars. Many Stars fans were disappointed to lose the young-ish defensemen but Dallas blogger Josh Lile had a different take:
@307x he can't play defense or make an outlet pass

One last note is Ryan Johansen is not injured. Pray to your higher being this evening because that is probably the best news (other than a win) you will hear today.
In Game
First Period
- Slow start thus far five minutes into the game. Both teams still getting their feet under them.
- After some quick stops at the beginning the game has been fairly free flowing with no real stoppages. Refs letting them play tonight.
- Foligno goes right around Howard and almost tucks it into the net. I actually have no idea how it didn’t go in.
- Tatar scores a goal to make the game 1-0 Detroit. Shot from the point deflects right to him and puts it home with relative ease.
- Every time I try to throw praise on Wennberg something terrible happens. I will keep my mouth shut until he scores that elusive first goal.
- Howard with one heck of a stop on Hartnell. Jimmy Howard standing quite tall early, proving that it won’t be that easy to score on the Red Wings this evening.
- Any sustained time in the zone for the Red Wings looks like a power play. Jackets just allowing them to do as they please. Waiting for Bob to bail them out.
- First power play of the evening with a little knee on knee action.
- Odd sequence where it looks like Boone Jenner scores a power play goal but they call a distinct kicking motion. Would need massive amounts of coordination to pull off such a kick.
- End of 1st Detroit leads 1-0
Second Period
- Jackets go to the PK almost immediately and Nyquist roofs it to make it 2-0.
- Detroit taking it to the Jackets this period with intermittent chances. Tough go thus far as the Jackets are overall playing a pretty good game.
- Jackets going back to the PK once again. Very lackadaisical period overall. Not really much to report on the Jackets side. Caught standing around more often than not.
- Everything seems to be coming tough for the Jackets.
- Hartnell nearly scores a goal after some sustained zone time. Good to see after the Red Wings were pressuring quite hard in the Jackets zone.
- Bob is the only reason the Jackets aren’t losing this game 7-0. Team seems uninvolved and/or tired, tough to get any string of good play together.
- Jackets in the last ten minutes of the period put some serious pressure on the Red Wings and will start the third period with a minute and thirty seconds of power play time
- End of 2nd Detroit leads 2-0
Third Period
- Jackets start the period on the PP and mostly turn the puck over continuously. Looking like it will be more of the same this period.
- Johansen with a roughing penalty and almost immediately the Red Wings score to make the game 3-0. Very, very disheveled play.
- Shortly after it all another goal is scored by the Red Wings to make the game 4-0. Hartnell takes exception to the ass kicking and proceeds to wail on Abdelkader.
- Brendan Smith and Nick Foligno drop the gloves. No real winner in the fight and immediately Foligno goes down to the dressing room. Cross your fingers Blue Jackets nation.
- Jackets get a power play opportunity with about nine minutes left in the third. Most fans have headed towards the exit at this point.
- Jared Boll is playing on the PP currently. JARED BOLL IS PLAYING ON THE POWER PLAY.
- In the final minute of the game Red Wings score another goal to make it 5-0
- Hartnell and Johansen barely take a shift in the third period. Makes you wonder whether or not if Coach Richards is saving them for another night or punishing them.
- Detroit wins 5-0
