The Aftermath: (4/4/15) vs Pittsburgh Penguins

128

Jackets continue to play spoiler. Racking up their franchise best 9th straight win, beating the rivaled Penguins 5-3. Yes the Penguins were shorthanded missing both Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang but still it’s always great to beat a divisional rival (especially Pittsburgh).

Highlights

The Good, Better and Best

Good: Marko Dano

Dano continues to impress me. It looks as if he’s finally starting to be trusted by the coaching staff. After being curiously scratched for the Islanders game, he came into the game today and didn’t miss a beat. He racked up two primary assists giving him 18 points (in 31 games), all of which have come at even strength. His Corsi was just 48% but he was given the fifth hardest zone starts. He was also out there at the end of the game protecting the lead when the Penguins had the goalie pulled. The Jackets are a better team when he’s playing, let’s hope that scratch was a onetime thing.

Better: Brandon Dubinsky

What can I say about Dubinsky that hasn’t already been said recently? Matt covered it pretty well in his latest piece. He’s such a good player and today was no different. He had three assists and led the team in Corsi For with 70%. He was also a +9/-4 (69%) when matched up against Crosby.  Dubi also had a great quote post game:

Best: Nick Foligno

What a historic afternoon for Foligno. As if getting his first NHL hat trick wasn’t enough, but his third goal also happened to be his 30th on the season. This marks the first time Foligno has scored 30 in a season. Craziest part about this, this is only the second time in Foligno’s entire hockey career he has scored 30 goals. You have to go all the way back to the 2006-07 season when Foligno was with the Sudbury Wolves to find the last time he scored 30.
