Recap: Game #3 Columbus Blue Jackets @ Buffalo Sabres

JCooper3

A tough loss for the CBJ who lost the game 4-2 in a mostly uninspired effort.

Good: Jack Eichel

Other players on the Buffalo Sabres were much more deserving of this spot but in what has to be the best play from the game. Eichel toed the line, outmuscled Boone Jenner and beats Sergei Bobrovsky with an absolute rocket of a goal.

Not a lot could be done on the play except oogle and ogle at this generational player but he made the Jackets look silly multiple times, thus earning the top honors tonight.

Bad: Passing

A number of times today the Jackets just consistently couldn’t make tape to tape passes. It is a simple enough request (they are a professional hockey team) but the continuous drop passes to no one and dumps into the zone are frustrating as an onlooker. The team wants to run before they can walk, and it looks like they will need to get back to basics as they move onto the next game.

Ugly: 5v5 play

While the Jackets did score two power play goals on the evening they weren’t able to generate anything at even strength. This wouldn’t be so problematic, but unfortunately for them they were facing a backup in Chad Johnson. They allowed Johnson to look as if he was a Lundqvist offshoot; he really didn’t have to worry about much during the game, although he may have been thinking about his post game meal since he had enough time between attempted shots. They can’t live and die by the power play. This team is too good to play the way they have and will have a chance to redeem themselves later this week. For now? Bag skate time.
