The Buckeye State Hockey 10: Condiments and Comebacks

436

It’s been a crazy week in the NHL, what with the Blue Jackets winning their first game and the Anaheim Ducks bottoming out at 30th in the League. But here at Buckeye State Hockey, we figured Friday’s can be a time to have a little fun. So welcome to our first (and perhaps last) list of (sometimes Top) ten.

As the week comes to a close, we thought we’d share with you a (not-so serious) list of what’s been on our minds this week.

10. – The Anaheim Ducks

If any one quick video can describe how bad it’s been for the Ducks so far, it’s this one.

9. – The Dallas Stars’ first 30 minutes of play

Dallas has stormed out of the gate this October, going 8-2 and climbing early to the top of the dreaded Central Division as well as the Western Conference. It has not come easy, though. The last few wins have often come in the comeback fashion, and the last 2 games they’ve played this week saw them down by multiple goals after the first half  (or so) of the game.

8. – Hunt’s Ketchup

Our very own Sam Blazer here at Buckeye State Hockey has gone on record as preferring Hunt’s Ketchup over Heinz. The rest of us are disappointed. Little else needs to be said.

7. – The Columbus Blue Jackets’ Hygiene

First Johansen comes down with fatigue and now Brandon Saad is out with an illness? Who’s not washing their hands?! Do we need to ship them a pallet of Purell? We had a year of injuries, we don’t want to see any more illnesses, especially when someone as important as Saad is out.

6. – This MLS Penalty Shot Shootout

While we aren’t a fan of his condiment choices, we are a fan of his sports prowess. Points to (after points from for the ketchup fiasco) Mr. Samuel Antonio Blazer for this link. A crazy penalties shootout between the Portland Timbers and Sporting Kansas City  on Thursday night.

5. – Max Domi Scoring Against the Maple Leafs

Tie Domi is a pretty prolific Maple Leaf alumnus, and it was a pretty neat moment when his son scored in his first game against his dad’s former team. Look at that smile. Gotta be one of the happiest dads this week. (Besides mine of course, who turned 60 and got to get one last game of golf in before Ohio envelops itself in snow. Happy Birthday, Dad!)

4. – The Dallas Stars’ Last 30 Minutes of Play

So, if Dallas is 8-2 and they’ve given up a feast of 1st and 2nd period goals, how are they winning? By going bonkers on teams in the last frame, of course. Coming all the way back from a 3-0 deficit against the Ducks on Tuesday and a 3-1 gap against the Canucks on Thursday, this type of play seems to be a theme among the Stars. If I’m a Stars fan (and I’m totally not) I am hoping that this levels out soon, or they risk turning into a more talented version of last year’s Flames. That kind of play will catch up with you, whether it be in February or June. Right now though, Dallas fans are enjoying it.

3. – Bertman Ballpark Mustard

If you like America, hot dogs, baseball and interesting local flavor, this is the condiment for you. It’s like Stadium Mustard but better. Even the Indians agree.

2. – This Goal by Scott Hartnell

Coach already talked through this goal in greater detail than I ever could. It’s amazing. Stick tap to Stephen Gionta for being the Jackets’ punching bag that game. Poor guy.

1. –  Hugs <3

The Jackets finally get a few wins this week, and boy did the club and its fan base need that. With the Jackets apparently at work evening out their record, we can focus on the important things like the viability of whipped cream on cakes and pies and who reaches the next point milestone first (David Clarkson is 3 away from 200 and Ryan Johansen is 1 assist from 100).

Till next time…
