The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
The Good: Joonas Korpisalo
It looks like Joonas Korpisalo may be pretty good. He may be on one hell of a hot streak at the moment but nonetheless, he looks like he is just as good as advertised. His .971 sv% was outstanding and truly kept the Blue Jackets in the game. The team wasn’t looking very good and he saved their butts. He made six high danger saves at even strength, showing that he was able to stand tall when it mattered most.
The Bad: Ice time distribution
I have been highly critical of the Blue Jackets ice time and that isn’t going to change today in this column. Scott Hartnell only had 13 minutes on the evening and for a player that consistently contributes offensively, it is simply not enough. Nick Foligno also got around 14 minutes of ice time and for a player that thrives in offensive circumstances, it doesn’t make a lot of sense.
The Ugly: Offensive drought
One goal each game the past two games is not going to cut it and if you told me this was going to happen on this trip, I wouldn’t believe that they left a game with any points. The team has some offensive fire power but for some reason it isn’t clicking. The team is getting in high danger spaces and just not converting. They will start putting those away if they keep at it. Tomorrow against the Flames should be a prime opportunity for them as the Flames have had porous goaltending all year.
Tweet of the game:
@JeffVeillette He has amazing hands. He caught my eye last year, and has been ever better than expectations.
