Perhaps for the last time in his Vikings career, we gleefully smear a mushroom shaped poop stain all over Christian Ponder’s large, helmeted forehead, for nose diving the Minnesota Vikings in a game against the Packers.
Listen, it’s easy to pile it on to Ponder. When he plays, it just seems obvious to try to blame him for everything. Missed pass to Cordarrelle? Well, Ponder shouldn’t be throwing it at his ankles. Poor showing by Matt Kalil in pass blocking? Well, Ponder should have gotten rid of the ball quicker. Defense giving up 42 points? Dammit Ponder! Play better ball-control offense and keep the defense off the field! You are WORTHLESS!
Of course, the story with Christian Ponder is – and always has been – a bit more complicated than “YOU SUCK, PONDER!” He has sucked because his coaching staff has largely sucked, his supporting cast has mostly sucked, and he partially sucks as well. Which of course doesn’t help. If he didn’t suck, we wouldn’t be throbbing over a potential franchise quarterback in Teddy Bridgewater. So really, I guess if anything, maybe we should be THANKING Ponder for sucking. Without his three years of torpedoing this franchise, we never would have had the opportunity to draft Bridgewater. So really, he’s just had the best interest of the Vikings in mind the whole time.
So, thank you, Ponder, you SOB. You most definitely were awful in this game against the Packers, but by god, you went out there with chutzpa and got the shit kicked out of you with conviction. Even I can’t be mad at that. Much.
