Acting Cordial: Talking Vikings vs. Bills with Buffalo Wins

Once again, in anticipation of a Vikings game that is likely to be underwhelming, Purple Jesus Diaries has pinged one of our Bloguin Bros to help us preview the upcoming game. This weekend, the purple head to Buffalo to face Antoine Winfield’s least favorite ex-girlfriend, and also a franchise just as morbid as the Vikings are. We asked Buffalo Wins a handful of questions – while answering many of theirs over on their site – to get some further insight into the game, and about Buffalo. Here’s a hint! They like to get drunk! On to being cordial!

Purple Jesus Diaries: After stealing a nice win against a feisty Chicago Bears team to start the season, it seems like the Bills can’t stop beating themselves up with their own fists. What the early season grade-out for the Bills?

Buffalo Wins: I’d say around a C+. They are exactly where I’d thought they’d be record wise before the season. However, I didn’t think they’d bench their starting QB to get to 3-3. The defense has been decent, albeit, Brady destroyed them last week. The running game has really been the biggest disappointment. The Bills were in the top 5 rushing YPC the last three seasons and now they are down to 21st in the NFL.

PJD: Unfortunately for our crappy ass offense, it seems the Bills have a pretty decent defense this year. Is that true, and if yes, what’s the biggest strength of this D?

BW: Yeah, the defense can really get after the QB with their front four. Jerry Hughes and Mario Williams off the edge are a great 1-2 punch. They are in the top 10 for sacks at their positions. Marcell Dareus has been a fricken monster this year inside and he leads all defensive tackles in sacks. Kyle Williams is always the same and plays out of his mind. The Bills have also been really stout against the run with Brandon Spikes anchoring the run support at ILB. If I’m the Vikings, I’d spread the field and try and get Spikes off the field. The Bills secondary is below average, especially at CBs. Leodis McKelvin is the opposition’s bitch.

PJD: Kyle Orton? We really going to do this? What the hell happened to EJ Manuel? Florida State quarterbacks showing the NFL how to ride pine this game.

BW: EJ struggled and the Bills are in a win-now mode with a new owner coming on. Doug Marrone is under fire and rumor has it he’s coaching for his job and its playoffs or bust. I think if the Bills weren’t going through an ownership change they would have kept EJ in. Hard to bench a 1st round pick after 14 NFL starts. As for Kyle Orton, he’s had two 300-yard games in a row, which is the first time a Bills QB has done that since 2002. Yeah, we have been pathetic at QB.

PJD: If one were to go to a game in Buffalo, what kind of unique, local fare could we find in the stadium that would tickle our jimmies?

BW: Booze. Lots of it. Bills fans know how to tailgate. Of course, it borders on binge drinking, falling out of the upper deck and giving a blow job for a Bills jersey. There’s also a Bills fan who cooks food on the hood of his 1960s Pinto which is strange. Frankly, if it wasn’t for the tailgate over the past 14 years of zero playoffs, the Bills would have a lot of issues selling out games.

PJD: Why do the Bills like to draft interesting rookie prospects, but then not play them? Between CJ Spiller and Sammy Watkins, it seems like rookie players have recently been consistently underused. That seems like bad management of personnel.

BW: The Spiller stuff makes zero sense. Doug Marrone hates him and actually had Boobie Dixon take more offensive snaps last week. Yeah..Boobie fucking what? Spiller has really been corralled this year and is having his worst year as a pro. A lot of it has to do with the OL being terrible. I mean, the Bills have a 5th and 7th round rookie starting and they moved Erik Pears -who was supposed to be cut 20 times by now- from tackle to guard. Also, the Bills are fixated with running out of two 2TEs or using their fullback which doesn’t work for CJ. He’s better if you run him out of the spread. Sammy Watkins has been alright for them, but there have been some guys they’ve ignored him. Still, I wouldn’t panic about him. Yet.

PJD: LOL, Seantrel Henderson. Has he played at all?

BW: Actually, he’s been our starting right tackle. He’s been alright when you consider he’s a 7th round choice. He’s not all-world or anything and he hasn’t been cut doing drugs yet.

PJD: Have a prediction for this weekend’s slop fest?

BW: I think your team sucks more than mine. You have nice WRs, but a rookie QB. I think our offense is a little better and our defense should stop Bridgewater. 20-7, Bills
