After BJ Dubose, a defensive tackle who was drafted last year, came down with an ACL injury this past week – the Vikings placed him on the IR list. Today, it was announced that the Vikings have signed Bruce Gaston to replace him. Is Bruce Gaston just another body – or is he poised to have an impact on this team? Let’s take a look at his history…
Bruce was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2014 by the Arizona Cardinals. He played his college ball at Purdue University. He is a nose tackle at 6’2, 310 pounds. He was signed to the Patriots practice squad in 2014, but was waived near the start of the season. He was then on Miami’s practice squad and waived. Gaston joined the active roster of the Arizona Cardinals after being signed off Miami’s practice squad in 2014. He was later waived and signed to the Cardinals practice squad. Three squads in one year… jeeez. But wait, there’s more. Bruce was then signed to the Packers active roster in December. He was then waived in October of 2015. Are you following? He was then signed to their practice squad and in October 2015, he was signed to the Bears active roster – where he remained the rest of the 2015 season.
He played in 7 games for Chicago – registering 11 tackles and 1 sack.
But, Bruce may be most memorable for this moment during the Vikings/Bears game last season.
