Count Adrian Peterson among those who are glad that OTAs and minicamp are over, because all that offseason stuff isn’t his cup of tea.
The 31-year-old Vikings running back is so tired of offseason work that he said it could eventually be the reason he retires.
“It’s so repetitive that it’s more suited toward the young guys and getting them into the system. It gets kind of boring,” Peterson told ESPN.com.
Peterson pointed out that his best season came when he ran for 2,097 yards in 2012, and he spent that offseason rehabbing from a torn ACL rather than practicing. Only Eric Dickerson (2,105 in 1984) ran for more yards in a single season.
Peterson isn’t the only veteran who has little use for offseason practices, but he is the only one who has a shot at Emmitt Smith’s career rushing record of 18,355 yards. He needs 6,681 yards to reach that milestone. To get there he’ll not only have to avoid tacklers, he might have to figure out his way around some of the Vikings’ offseason programs in the years to come.
