No matter what age you are, Halloween seems to be a favorite of every red-blooded American. From wearing awesome costumes and getting free candy as a kid to awesome costumes and beer pong as an adult, Halloween has it all.
Since East Carolina will be preparing to play Temple on the spookiest party day in the nation and likely won’t be able to participate in many festivities, we’ll take a guess at which Halloween-themed character they would best represent based on in-game performance and, of course, physical traits.
Shane Carden: Chucky from Child’s Play
Despite the reddish color in Shane Carden’s hair, this is not why he was chosen to be paired with this famously frightening doll. Chucky is what nightmares are made of. One of the scariest things on this planet is the blank stare of a doll in a dark room. Couple that with the soul of a murderous crazy person and you have Chucky. Carden has been giving opposing defenses nightmares by killing the defenses in the passing game. With the confidence and swagger in his eye, there is nothing that Carden can’t do. There is no stopping Carden when he is in the zone, much like Chucky on one of his rampages.
Breon Allen: Jason Voorhees
Jason Voorhees is the unstoppable force that hails from Camp Crystal Lake in the frightening series Friday the 13th. Breon Allen may be a little small to fit the build of Jason, but one thing is for sure: Allen cannot be stopped. His 569 yards are third in the conference, and in last week’s game, Allen was thought to have left the game early with injury, but came back stronger like Jason and was able to score two touchdowns. One of those touchdowns helped the Pirates pull away from Uconn in its 10-point victory. Look out Temple, Allen can’t be stopped.
Motese Overton: Freddy Kruger
Freddy Kruger is probably the most terrifying Halloween villian of all-time. You would think that you are safe from murderers in your dreams, but Nightmare on Elm Street proves that you cannot even hide in your own subconscious. That is exactly what Motese Overton does to the opposing quarterback. Overton is so fast and explosive, he gives nightmares to those that lineup against him. This one man wrecking crew has what it takes to not only have success in the college ranks, but also in the next level.
Justin Hardy: Nightcrawler
Okay, so this one isn’t as much a Halloween villain, but rather a X-Men member. Nightcrawler is a demon that can teleport from place to place. (That should qualify.) This power makes him extremely useful in stopping any villain. Hardy is much of the same as Nightcrawler; he jumps back and forth behind any defensive back while making all the big plays. This shiftiness not only has allowed him several points, it has allowed him to be on the cusp of breaking the all-time receptions record for the NCAA.
Coach Ruffin McNeill: Jigsaw from the Saw series
Jigsaw is the mastermind criminal in the highly-acclaimed Saw series. Jigsaw takes his victims hostage and will pit them against each other in a slew of Rube Goldberg machines, exhausting them psychologically and physically. There are no such machines allowed in football games (thank heavens), but ECU will have the same effect on the teams that they face, The overall preparedness of the Pirates coupled and execution can break down teams mentally and physically. Teams that were supposed to walk all over ECU have found themselves beaten in every aspect of the game. Opponents that find themselves close against the Pirates will find themselves exhausted and beaten when it’s all said and done. Having that type of leadership and mad man patrolling the sidelines, ECU will have a lot of success in years to come.
Thank goodness the players don’t have to worry about what costume to wear and can only focus on playing football. It can be a hard decision on deciding on what costume to pick. Fortunately for ECU, I have done it for them.
Remember to be safe during this holiday and don’t drink and drive to watch your East Carolina Pirates take on Temple Saturday in a crucial conference game.
