Voting for the Final Four of the Pittsburgh Sports Blog Tournament has opened, and both WHYGAVS and Bucs Dugout are facing Steeler blogs. I’m not one to tell you what to do with your vote, but I think it would be pretty rockin’ if the finals involved two Pirate blogs, and I’m not just saying that because one of them happens to be mine. Well, maybe that’s a little bit of my motivation, but still.

When I was in high school, I briefly considered quitting my job at Tam O’ Shanter Golf Course to try out for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ open public address announcer position. I didn’t (though I should have; washing golf carts and driving the picker on the driving range kind of sucked), but Big League Stew’s Dave Brown did try out for the Orioles’ spring PA job and wrote an awesome blog post (complete with video) about it.

The Astros extended Ed Wade through 2012. Phase 1 of the Pirates’ rebuilding plan, “be better than someone in the division consistently” may be heading towards completion.

I think the consensus on the Tony Sanchez pick is slowly starting to shift. Kevin Goldstein at BP rates Sanchez favorably in his Pirates’ Top 11 and though he says later that they “sacrificed” the pick, he seems a lot more open to the possibility of Sanchez being a very good pickup worth the draft slot in the article’s comments. Meanwhile, the Baseball America guys discuss how much better Sanchez’s defense is than they expected and say that if he hits, he could be one of the best players from last year’s draft (BA link via Bucs Dugout).
