A ten run loss, then a two-hit shutout against a team that couldn’t beat anyone before the Pirates came to town. Ouch. I maintain my belief that this club will eventually pull out of this tailspin, but that’s pretty much running on faith alone at the moment. Today, let’s just hope that Oakland’s pitcher friendly park snaps Ross Ohlendorf out of his season-long slump. He’s still looking for his first win of the season with the added task of stopping the Pirates’ losing streak at five games. Just keep repeating to yourself, “It can’t get worse than this, it can’t get worse than this” and hope that’s the truth.

With the Pirates playing terribly, participation has been down the last few days, but that didn’t start almost everyone nailing last night’s Cangelosi, Dan McCutchen, right on the nose. Seven people made guesses, six got McCutchen. Last night was also notable in that only one Pirate, Octavio Dotel, had a positive WPA at all, and his number was 0.01. Ouch.
