As per today’s PG, the stupid Lastings Milledge/Ryan Church platoon is finally over. Whether it not this lasts beyond the next time Lastings plows through a stop-sign on the bases or turns a single into a triple remains to be seen.
Honestly, I’m still not sure if I buy Neal Huntington’s “years of control” explanation as to why the platoon even existed in the first place. I try not to take anything except actions from the front office at face value (this isn’t because I think they’re necessarily dishonest, but because I think there are plenty of reasons for a front office to not be completely truthful) and I still kind think he may have just been covering for JR for whatever reason. Also the “years of control” excuse is colossally stupid and I’d rather believe that Huntington isn’t colossally stupid because it helps me sleep better at night.
Whatever the case is, let’s just hope that it’s a long-term thing and we get a real chance to see if Lastings can stay as hot as he’s been since June 1st with every day action.
