The Pirates’ terrible, injury-riddle minor league season took another bad turn yesterday when they found out that the hot-since-June Gorkys Hernandez has a broken ring finger and will miss the rest of the season. He should be healthy in time to play some winter ball and make up for the lost time, but it’s unfortunate that his injury comes now as he’s finally starting to hit the ball.
In happier minor league news, Bryan Morris pitched very well last night after being skipped once in Altoona’s rotation. As I mentioned before, his inning count is getting up there so hopefully the club will be careful with him as the season winds down. I recently wrote that his struggles weren’t worrying me too much because of that inning count, but it’s still nice to see him pitch well.
Finally, this seems as good a place as any to mention that BuccoFans is now PirateProspects.com and Tim has brought on some additional writers, including the excellent Wilbur Miller. Tim’s site was already one of the best resources for Pirate fans on the web and the place to go to read about prospects, and this should only improve things. Make sure to update your bookmarks, RSS feeds, etc. if you haven’t already.
