Afternoon game

Johnny Cueto, who’s dominated the Pirates today, takes the mound against Jeff Karstens, who runs out of gas after five innings and has a trade decimated bullpen behind him. I don’t particularly like the Pirates’ odds today.

UPDATED to say that holy freaking crap, Andrew McCutchen is a beast. Thumped in the head with a fastball last night, scared the holy bejus out of everyone, and is back in the lineup like 16 hours later.

First pitch is at 12:35; Clemente/Cangelosi is after the jump.

Not sure what this is? Check here and here. Short version: in the comments pick the Pirates you think will be most and least valuable in today’s game. If you haven’t jumped aboard yet, it’s been a lot of fun so far and now’s as good a time as any to join in.

Got the two-day update in! Today in “WPA isn’t always the best metric for this game” is our example of Joel Hanrahan’s taking home last night’s Clemente because Evan Meek made the game a one-run game, while Neil Walker’s RBIs came after the Pirates were already ahead. Alas, maybe we’ll change things up next year.

Anyways, the up-to-the-second standings:
