Charlie Morton actually managed to hold himself together on the mound last night for 6 1/3 innings and the Pirates got him off the hook for another loss, but this time the Pirates’ pen melted down in the ninth inning. And now football season is starting and the Pirates already have 94 losses on September 12th and this just isn’t going to bode well for many people seeing just how high that loss total goes.
That’s maybe not such a bad thing this afternoon with Brian Burres and Johnny Cueto taking the mound at GABP at 1:10. Burres looked pretty OK in his first start back in the rotation against the Braves this week, but then that’s how his Pirate career started earlier this year and it didn’t last too long.
