It looks like the Pirates are narrowing down their list of managerial candidates before possibly starting a second round of interviews. Both Ken Macha and Dale Sveum were told yesterday that they’re no longer being considered for the job. That leaves Carlos Tosca, Bo Porter, and Jeff Banister, plus whoever else the Pirates may interview from the remaining or recently eliminated playoff teams (Tony Pena? Ron Wotus?).
I’m tempted to say that they’re moving slow and that it’s getting kind of annoying, but the truth is that only the Mariners have hired a manager so far and the Mets, Marlins, Blue Jays, and Brewers are still searching. There’s not much for a manager to be doing right now, honestly, so if the Pirates want to take their time to get whoever they want, that’s fine by me.
