Carlos Tosca out? And other links

The Braves announced their official coaching staff today, which includes Carlos Tosca as bench coach. I’m not sure if that means they’re sure that Tosca isn’t being considered to manage the Pirates anymore, or if they’re just putting it out there and will deal with Tosca leaving if he does. Figured it might be worth mentioning, though, because we found out guys like Sveum and Gibbons weren’t candidates when they were announced as parts of other coaching staffs.

Also, they’ve announced a time and place for the first showing of Game 7 of the 1960 World Series: November 13th at the Byham. You may commence being jealous of anyone you know that somehow lucks into tickets.

I love watching the swing in public opinion after two World Series games. Everyone (including me) picked the Rangers prior to the series, and now everyone’s jumping off the bandwagon after two games. The Giants have looked great (certainly better on offense than I expected), but Game 3 is in Texas with Colby Lewis, who was great against the Yankees, on the mound for the Rangers. One win for them changes things quickly.

Finally, I wanted to mention that WHYGAVS is nominated for two 2010 Bloguin Awards: Best Baseball Blog and Blog of the Year (we’ve also got some other Pittsburgh blogs nominated, included longtime Friends of WHYGAVS PSAMP and the Pensblog). I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t want to successfully defend the Best Baseball Blog award I took home in 2009, but the truth is that it’s worth it to check out the page just to see all the great sites that Bloguin’s started in the past couple years. This little network has come a very long way in the two years since I’ve joined and there are some very good things (a big site redesign that should help clean things up and a new commenting tool that should be going live in the very near future) in store before the first pitch next April. Even if you don’t vote for me (I’ll get over it), make sure to check out the awards page to see if there are any blogs you need to add to your reader or bookmarks list.
