More things to do while we wait

The Bill James projections are up on FanGraphs, if you’re into that kind of thing. James has Pedro Alvarez down for 27 homers. ZiPS had him for 28. I’m hoping for at least 30, personally, but James’s overall projection for Pedro (.277/.352/.501, strikeout rate below 30%) are pretty friendly. I’ll probably try to get together some posts on some of these projections in the next few days. I swear I won’t even mention Andy LaRoche this time around.

Meanwhile, Brandon Moss did elect for free agency after being outrighted by the Pirates, so there’s a very good chance his Pirate career is over. He’ll probably be one of the more negatively-remembered Pirates of the last 18 years by the general fan base. That strikes me as pretty unfair, but so it goes.

Somewhere, Neal Huntington and his staff are picking a manager. Or sleeping. Probably sleeping at this point. For context, John Russell was hired on November 3rd, but that was in a year that free agency didn’t start until November 15th.
