Just curious this morning what people think about the first wave of hiring for Clint Hurdle’s coaching staff. Specifically, I’m interested in what people think of the composition with three coaches coming from inside the system (Ritchie, Banister, Searage) and only one from the outside (Leyva). With at least a first base coach and bullpen coach left to hire the staff will likely end up pretty balanced between internal hires and guys Hurdle brings in, but Banister and Searage have pretty prominent places on the coaching staff.
I don’t really have a problem with it. Hurdle doesn’t have much of a connection to anything in our system and guys like Searage and Banister and Ritchie all obviously know the players that they’ll be working with better than he does and I think that combining the staff with some of Hurdle’s guys and some organizational guys could make a nice combination. That said, I know that some fans are concerned with Huntington micro-managing the team and the front office, and keeping Searage and Banister on staff and bringing another minor league guy up obviously won’t change that impression.
