So I was not stunned early this morning when Diaz agreed to a two-year, $4.25 million deal with the Pirates. What interests me a lot more, in fact, is what might come next — perhaps another, bigger deal?
The Pirates are among the teams scouting Bartolo Colon in the Dominican right now, where he is 40 pounds lighter, throwing 90-93 mph and just dominating opponents in winter ball.

Actually, Biertempfel is ruminating on Ryan Doumit’s future — which pretty much everyone agrees is limited after signing Diaz (who Biertempfel says was “not signed to be an every day player,” which makes me feel a little better) — and what I mentioned yesterday; that it would make some sense for Neal Huntington to be shopping Paul Maholm right now. The winter meetings aren’t over yet …
