Pirates cut ten, Olsen and Beimel make spring debuts

As alluded to below, the Pirates sent ten players down to minor league camp this morning. Most of them were young players with no real shot of making the roster out of camp (Lambo, Friday, d’Arnaud, Aguero, Locke, and Gorkys Hernandez) though a couple were in the periphery of the bullpen mix (Aaron Thompson, Moskos, and Watson) and one (Alex Presley) was on the fringe of competing for a big league job. In any case, as more of these guys go down to the minors, the final picture becomes at least a little bit clearer.

Also today, both Scott Olsen and Joe Beimel are slated to get their first Grapefruit League action after battling injuries. They’re both supposed to work an inning sometime after starter Kevin Correia, who’s already put two zeroes on the board against the Orioles as I type this.
