One game is one game; we all know that. The Pirates have won five straight openers now and we all know how the last four seasons have turned out. There were certainly plenty of good things to find in yesterday’s game, but there was also some ugly fielding and some bad swings. The Pirates won seventeen games on the road last year. There were only two junctures at which they won consecutive road games all season and none of them came after May 14-15 in Chicago. So what better way to kick off the season than with two straight road wins?
Paul Maholm and Carlos Zambrano go at 1:05 ET today. The Pirates worked Dempster for some walks yesterday and made him pay. They should be able to do the same thing to Zambrano, if they’re willing to take some pitches again.
