Monday morning links and things

Step outside. Take a breath. The Pirates have a winning record. The Pirates have a winning record on the road. Life is good.

This went live on Friday and some of you may have seen it via Twitter, but I’m really excited to be able to say that I’m going to be doing a weekly piece for Pittsburgh Magazine’s Pulling No Punches blog. My first post went up Friday and I’ll do my best to post over here when stuff goes up over there.

Clint Hurdle blamed some missed signs for the outrageous bunting over the weekend (not the Overbay bunt, but the Tabata and Walker bunts). We’ll see. There’s also some stuff in there about McCutchen’s sore neck, which still kind of sounds like a question mark for tonight.

From the weekend, the Bucs announced that Jameson Taillon and Stetson Allie will begin their seasons in extended Spring Training in Bradenton instead of with Low-A West Virginia in the Sally League. This makes plenty of sense; we know the team is trying to control both of young pitchers’ innings and keeping them where it’s warm and sunny vs. pitching somewhere that it could be quite a bit colder in the early part of the season makes plenty of sense. So long as they’re with the Power before they come and play in Greensboro, I’m A-OK with this move (not to be selfish or anything … just sayin’).
