Game 9: Rockies 6 Pirates 4

As this game wore on, I kept saying to myself, “The walks will catch up to you. The walks will catch up to you.” They didn’t catch Charlie Morton, but strike zone struggles ended up getting Jose Veras in the end tonight and the Pirates lost what was probably a winnable game.

Morton pitched pretty similarly to his start in St. Louis though I didn’t think he was quite as sharp tonight. Still, he held the Rockies to three runs over seven innings despite allowing five walks and he again worked out of jams and got a ton of groundballs. In the end, the offense just couldn’t quite get the hit that it needed in the eighth and ninth innings and the Bucs rally came up just a bit short.

I’ll do another breakdown of Morton’s start with PitchFX and everything, but it probably won’t run until Sunday night/Monday.
