Unfortunately, James McDonald’s penchant for giving up grand slams caught up to him again and his bad start was the difference for the Pirates between a win and a loss. Pedro Alvarez’s bat finally came alive with a long home run and a great opposite field double and the team almost rallied with three runs in the sixth, but the 9-2 deficit and Matt Diaz’s poorly timed double play were just too much to overcome.
In the long run, I think McDonald will probably be fine and Pedro’s bat coming alive is a pretty important thing, but this was a pretty ugly series in Miami after a great weekend in Cincinnati.
The Bucs head back home for Easter weekend to play the Nats. Hopefully, they can turn their home fortunes around.
