The Pirates are off today and I’m pretty bogged down with other stuff, but here’s some reading for the afternoon:
Andrew McCutchen does an interview with The Good Point and has some great things to say about the Pirates organization and his desire to remain a part of it.
Rudy Owens’ dad was once a pitching prospect himself, but lost a leg in a car accident. What a story.
This is left over from a day or so ago, but John Bowker cleared waivers and is headed to Triple-A Indy. Obviously Xavier Paul has shown the Pirates nothing but good things so far (his hitting is a pretty small sample to be excited about, but I do like having a backup outfielder that can field on the club), but I still think Bowker is a nice player to have in the system, if only for depth.
The Dodgers can’t make payroll this month and the MLBPA says that if the players don’t get paid, they can file for free agency. I doubt that will happen, but wow, what a mess. Ron Burkle has voiced interest in buying the Dodgers, which means that a vocal portion of the Pirate fan base could lose their white knight if the league is forced to expedite a sale of the club.
