Get out the brooms

There’s just something fun about a baseball team that strings together some wins. I haven’t been able to watch the Pirates in this series against the Tigers yet, but checking my phone while they piled on the runs during their comeback last night was a beautiful thing to see.

A week ago, the Pirates were mired in a losing streak that more or less wiped out the first 35 games of the season. Now they’re putting together a winning streak that’s making everyone forget the losing streak. Just like I thought Max Scherzer was due a loss yesterday, I think that Paul Maholm is due for a win today. Maholm’s pitching as well has he has at any point in his career, but he’s only got a 1-6 record. He deserves better. He’s got a tough draw against Rick Porcello today, though, to finish the home sweep of the Tigers.

I’m trying hard to think of a counter example, but I’m pretty sure that a home sweep of the Tigers to get back to .500 the week before Memorial Day would be one of the sweeter weekends for the Pirates in recent memory. Let’s make it happen.
