Colin Dunlap resigns from the Post-Gazette

There’s some surprising news on the journalism front of things today, as Colin Dunlap announced yesterday evening that he’s resigning from the Post-Gazette as the Pirates’ beat writer to spend more time with his three-month old twins. I don’t know Colin all that well, but we did meet and talk a bit at spring training and he’s been active on Twitter since his time as the Duquesne basketball/WVU football guy and he’s always struck me as a very good guy. I thought he was doing a particularly good job of making the PBC Blog a source of extra information that was worth the subscription fee (despite all of the PG+’s technical issues), be that early previews of stories or full audio interviews. It’s a pretty brave move by Dunlap, but he’s obviously a guy that knows what he wants and I only wish him the best in whatever he does from here.

For now, the only other thing we know is that the Pirate beat will be filled by Bill Brink on an interim basis while the paper looks for a replacement.
