Electric Charlie faces the platoon challenge

After Charlie Morton’s last start, Dave Cameron at FanGraphs took a look at Morton’s season to date and found that lefties have been absolutely killing Morton so far in 2011 and that he’s been kind of lucky to not face many of them. Tonight, the Braves are starting six lefties (counting switch hitters) against the former Brave. Morton does tend to pitch lefties a little differently (fewer sinkers, more changeups), so it should be interesting to watch his approach tonight, especially if he gets into any trouble early on.

Beyond that, the Pirates have a second straight tough pitching matchup against Jair Jurrjens, who’s been excellent this year. With seven against the Cubs and Mets on tap after this Braves’ series, the Pirates should have a chance to make some headway towards .500 if they can just split this home series against the Braves. The easiest way to do that would be to take the mystery out of it tonight.

First pitch is 7:05.
