When the rain delay stretched beyond two hours this afternoon, I didn’t think the Pirates and Cubs would actually play today and so by the time I realized that the game was on, the Pirates were already ahead 2-0. That meant that I saw a whole lot of nothing from the Pirate offense against Ryan Dempster. They could’ve used just a few of those insurance runs from yesterday this afternoon; Jeff Karstens and Chris Resop and Evan Meek and Dan McCutchen all pitched well, but they didn’t get any help at all.
The bigger news from this one is that Ryan Doumit was injured in a home plate collision and it looks like he’s probably headed to the DL with a sprained ankle. Steve Pearce is also supposedly on his way there for the injury he sustained yesterday. There’s no official word on the corresponding moves yet, but Rob Biertempfel speculates that Andy Marte will be up to replace Pearce and Scott McCauley noted that Dusty Brown was a late scratch in today’s Indianapolis game, which started after Doumit’s injury. I’ll put another post up when the official word comes down.
