When the Pirates racked up 105 losses last season, not one team apologized for beating them. The Reds’ NL Central title was not invalidated because they beat the Pirates ten times. The Astros are going to lose a bunch of games this year, so the Pirates should claim their share.
Tonight Charlie Morton makes his first PNC start since blowing up against the Orioles two weeks ago. He looked a bit better against the Nationals last Friday, though Clint Hurdle hooked him pretty early just to be safe and that probably ended up costing the Pirates a win. Morton’s made one great start and one decent start against the Astros this year; hopefully Hurdle lets the leash out a little bit if Morton earns it. Bud Norris goes for the Astros; he’s got two nine-strikeout games against the Pirates this year, but he’s also got two losses because the Astros have scored a total of one run in those two games.
First pitch today is at 7:05. The Brewers won this afternoon, so the Pirates need a win to stay in second.
