Game 96: Reds 3 Pirates 1

It’s tempting to shrug this loss off with a wave of the hand and say, “Two out of every three will get the Pirates into the playoffs by a comfortable margin,” because in the end that’s true.

It’s also tempting to do this: WHY IN THE NAME OF HONUS WAGNER IS ALEX PRESLEY, THE HOTTEST HITTER ON THE TEAM, BUNTING WITH TWO RUNNERS ON AND NO ONE OUT IN THE SEVENTH INNING, DOWN BY TWO RUNS? CHASE D’ARNAUD WAS ON DECK! AND WHY WAS CHASE D’ARNAUD ON DECK? HE SHOULDN’T BE BATTING SECOND! HE SHOULDN’T BE BATTING AT ALL! HE CAN’T FIELD OR HIT! HOW DARE HE MAKE ME MISS RONNY CEDENO!

Remember this: two out of three is nice, but every loss counts the same and every opportunity that’s left on the table will hurt you in the end if you come up short, whether it’s in April or July or September.
