Derrek Lee to the Pirates ‘Could happen tonight’

The Pirates/Phillies game is still technically happening, but I wanted a post up to mention that Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun is saying that Derrek Lee to the Pirates could happen by the end of the night. Lee isn’t all that great anymore, but he should be better than Overbay and with Chris Davis being traded to the Orioles earlier today he should also come cheaply. So long as the Pirates don’t give up much here, I think it could be a good move. I’ll post more if/when things happen.

UPDATE: Connolly adds that it’s going to be an “A-level hitter.” I don’t have any idea who that might be, but I’d be willing to guess it’s not a prospect like Robbie Grossman or even a fringe prospect like Jarek Cunningham. Most likely, I’d guess it’s someone like Aaron Baker, who has some upside but who’s kind of redundant with Matt Curry mashing this year and Alex Dickerson drafted and signed. We should know for sure by tomorrow morning.
