The Reds Redux

The draft is still happening, but the Pirates have what’s a fairly important series with the Cincinnati Reds’ kicking off at Great American Ballpark tonight. The Reds have a three-game lead on the Pirates, but the Pirates are undoubtedly playing their best baseball of 2012 right now and so it’s actually possible the Pirates could enter interleague play tied for first in the division. There’s no medals for being in first place on June 6th, but hey, it’s better than not being in first place on June 6th, right?

Alex Presley rejoins the club tonight after absolutely destroying Triple-A pitching in his 18 game minor league sojourn (five homers, two doubles, three triples, even 12 walks in 79 plate appearances) and Gorkys Hernandez’s first big league stint is over. If Presley’s bat stays hot and some other Pirates’ can keep their bats going, well, it’s certainly possible to score runs in Great American Ballpark in June. Homer Bailey, who tossed a complete game against the Pirates in his last start, will go for the Reds against AJ Burnett, who shut down the Reds in his last start.

First pitch tonight is at 7:10. I’ll try to keep updating the draft post below, though I’m walking home in a bit and will miss some time. I’ll definitely do a recap of the draft thus far tonight to run tomorrow morning.
