Breaking the slump

James McDonald has looked like a budding top-rotation pitcher for much of the season now; the Pirates need him to be that more than ever tonight against the Indians as they head to Cleveland and try to break out of the ugly three-game losing streak that the Orioles sent them into. There’s not much else to say. The Pirates hit the ball fairly well against the Orioles, but the dug themselves into holes pretty much every single night and there was only so much that could be done once that happened. It’s McDonald’s job tonight to keep that from happening. He’ll face Justin Masterson tonight, who’s struggling with his control and not getting nearly as many ground balls as he did in his breakout year last year. I’ll just say it: it seems like a favorable matchup for the Pirates.

First pitch tonight is at 7:05.
