I think going to an All Star game could be fun. It would be a great weekend of cool events throughout the city… and the chance to see all of the NBA's stars in one place would be great.
Unfortunately, if you want to actually GO… you're probably going to have to travel. Boston ain't getting one any time soon… unless global warming stops taking it sweet time and starts doing some serious work.
While Stern said cold weather is "not a deal-breaker," he also acknowledged warm-weather cities are more attractive to fans.
"I think there's a pattern emerging," Stern said during a news conference before Game 2 of the Finals last night.
"I
think that our guests seem to come in greater numbers to warm weather,
and that's something that we're going to have to face up to and deal
with as we seek to attract the largest number.
The Celtics haven't even put a bid together for the next available game, 2012 (LA was just awarded 2011), probably because there's no point in wasting all that time and money on something that won't pay off (note: also the story of Chuck's love life from 1995-2002). I, for one, am going to do my part by buying a Hummer (I hear they're like five bucks now) and using it to do things like drive to my back yard. If we can melt those polar ice caps in the next decade or so… we might be able to get a game around here. We've got to do something… London is going to get a game before we do.
