Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
“I’ve turned into Forrest Gump a little bit. I’m glad to be back. It
feels like the first day of school, very excited. I’m just ready to get
back out there and play and be a part of the team and just feel more
wanted out there. Hopefully, I can another good practice in and maybe
[play] Sunday.”
…
“Just getting hit,” Daniels said Thursday. “Everything else is
pretty much mental. I think my conditioning is okay. It’s not the best
but it’s the best it can be without playing basketball. Other than
that, once I get that first hit on it, I think I’ll be okay.”
Rivers spent nearly 30 minutes with Daniels and the second unit at
the end of practice as he tries to help Daniels get back to speed in
time for a possible weekend return to action.
Marquis Daniels last played a game on December 4. After missing 27 games, I think it's fair to say he's going to be a tad rusty. The Cs want him to shake off some of that rust before the All-Star break (Sunday vs Orlando and Wednesday vs New Orleans), with the hopes he can hit the ground running for the big West coast trip.
On Page 2, why Sheed is one of the worst off-season signings.
How does a 35-year-old joining three stars who are likewise all over 30
show up out of shape? Wallace knew he was supposed to be the missing
link for a last-hurrah championship run, the guy who could ease the
burden on Kevin Garnett's knees, space the floor with accurate
three-point shooting and provide his customary lockdown defense in the
paint. It hasn't happened. Wallace keeps chucking up treys — he's
sixth on the team in minutes and second in three-point attempts — but
has made only 30 percent. On defense, the Celtics allow five more
points per 100 possessions with him on the court than when he's off it
— worse than Shelden Williams and Glen Davis, let alone Garnett or Kendrick Perkins.
Ugh. Tough to argue with those statistics. But as bad as Sheed as been, the Celtics would be in worse shape w/o him.
