Hello Followers. Hope you’re having great College Gameday.
As we’ve noted here for the past week, this is a MUST WIN game today.
With that in mind, conventional wisdom suggests that it doesn’t really matter whether we beat the Bows by 2 or by 40 today–what matters is that we need to win. At the same time, how we win today (assuming that we do) will also provide some important clues about our future prospects the rest of the way.
Throughout the week, some of you have noted in your comments that you are interested in seeing how a suddenly banged-up defense responds to the run and shoot. Others of you have noted that you are interested in seeing about whether the O-Line and the running game can control the clock and keep Hawaii’s offense off the field.
But, for me, the only thing I am concerned about—and looking for—is whether or not we can score points.
Because, let’s face it folks, our defense is NOT going to be able to hold Pac-10 offenses down in a significant way at any time during the year. So, if we’re going to beat anyone not named Hawaii or SMU, we’re going to have to put up at least 28 to have a chance. And, to do that against a Pac-10 school, we would have to be able to run it up against a lower tier WAC team like “the Hawaii.”
So, I am looking to see whether or not we can pu up between 31 and 41 today. If we do, we’ll win. But even more than securing a W today, puttin some points on the board should give us all hope that there may be more W’s coming—not only next week—but in future weeks as well.
Otherwise, be prepared to enjoy every moment of today’s contest. Because if we can’t put more than a few touches on the board today, we’re in for another long, long, long, LONG campaign the rest of the way.
Go K-Lo and Go Cougs!
