It may not be too early to thank our lucky stars that THIS GUY is a part of our 2010 class that will be arriving this summer. So far this Spring our kickers have developed a strong aversion to putting the pig through the uprights. I didn’t mention in my previous article about the first Spring scrimmage that the kicking was attrocious. It was cold and windy, so I figured it was just an off day, but it looks like it has been an off Spring. Nico Grasu is the heir-apparent at kicker and I always believed he was becoming a guy we could count on, but yeeesh, it’s been a major struggle for the senior-to-be. Imagine this scenario… a young offense spends most of the first 2 quarters getting over the yips and early in the 3rd is finally moving the ball down the field, giving the defense a rest, building momentum and gets in position to make a 10-0 game, a 10-3 game. Then it all ends with a CLANG! Off the upright. These are the kinds of things we just cannot afford this year. Of course, it’s early and Nico has a lot of time to figure things out. I will say this, until Mr. Furney arrives on campus, Nico is our only option that doesn’t make me cry.
