The other day I received a message from a loyal reader, we will call him Elk Hair Caddis. At the time we had been communicating on a Cougfan thread, when he posted a link about Kevin Norrell to our site. I made sure to thank him for the “plug” and then we started connecting some dots….
Elk mentioned to me he and another Cougar fan, B-Lot, have started another WSU blog. The blog isn’t so much of a sports blog like the one you’re currently being entertained by, but one that is more the business side of sports. It covers mainly with the WSU Athletic Foundation.
I told Elk we would be happy to share with our loyal audience a bit of information about his site, as well as share the link. So without further ado, here is a snippet about the Cougar Athletics Supporter.
Why did two guys who aren’t insiders decide to write an unofficial blog for the WSU Athletic Foundation? It’s not because we have too much time on our hands, because we don’t. We have lives away from the interwebs, you can stop laughing now. The reason is pretty simple. The WSUAF needs help getting word out to the 155,000 alums who aren’t athletic donors. Why? In King County, the AF only has twi employees to cover roughly 60,000 alums. Since my math skills far out weigh my writing skills, I can assure you that’s not a vary good donor to employee ratio. Too many for any one person to contact directly. The about page on our humble little blog has a good summary of why we are here. And then our first two posts Shower Shoes’, If Only You Asked or B-Lot’s There Are a Million Reasons Not to Do Something. You can also find us on Facebook so we can have more internet friends.
Who are we? Two guys who met on Cougar sites (did I say we have lives away from the net?) a few years ago and actually like each other in the real world. We read all the Cougar sports sites and count down the days to kickoff. I can’t count how many home projects I ‘started’ watching DIY network recently. We are fans, alums and geeks and we both want one thing. We want the Cougars to have successful athletics programs. Men, Women, football, hoops, you pick the sport and we want them to be successful, but especially football. It makes the 10 hour roundtrip drive much more enjoyable. And football pays the bills for all other sports so we need to get butts in the seats fall Saturday afternoons.
What will we blog about? I stole B-Lots description of our blogs ideal state….
I’d personally like it to become a conduit for the AD to share information they don’t (or are unable to) currently share through their normal communications. As of now there’s no way for Joe Cougfan to find out the status of Make Jim Pay, Phase 3 or 10/10/10 in terms of real, live numbers. If they don’t currently have the technology to publish information like that through official channels, why not feed us the info and let us broadcast it on the blog along with our brilliant and humorous anecdotes?
I sense a little sarcasm in B-Lots last statement. It would be great if the site became interactive. We want to encourage our readers to share their thoughts and we will gladly move any quality comments to our front page and communicate any suggestions you have to WSUAF.
Thanks to wsufootballblog.com for their support by posting this and GO COUGS!
