So, do you think Favre is done? I absolutely, positively do NOT think it’s over. There is a story today that says that the Vikes are already offering him $3 million more to entice him to come on in, taking is base salary up to $16 million. So who knows, maybe it’s a money grab? But in the end, Favre has always been about Favre. With “Fat” Albert Haynesworth and Darrell Revis getting all the preseason ink right now, hey, it was about time Favre surfaces for some love and adulation? Anyway, I won’t really believe he’s done until, like, week six of the NFL season. Until then, ESPN is on “Favre Watch”.
Moving on….
- I know we failed to mention it yesterday, but Grippi rolled out a really good read on James Montgomery. Without a doubt it’s worth the time to read up on Monty, who is making fantastic progress coming off the compartment syndrome injury from last year. We love Monty and hope for the best, and it would be especially wonderful to see him lineup in the backfield in Stillwater!
- The Cougs want YOU – YES YOU! – to be a part of Cougar Football! Jeff Tuel, Travis Long and coach Wulff ask “My Color is crimson. Is yours?” Check it:
- ESPN is running their top 50 “House of Pain” series, profiling the 50 most painful moments in recent NCAA football lore. The first 20 have been released, and guess what made it at #44? None other than the 1982 Apple Cup!
From the story:
Nov. 20, 1982: Washington State had lost eight straight to Washington when the Cougars moved the Apple Cup to Pullman for the first time since 1954. The Huskies needed a win to secure a Rose Bowl bid. The Cougars (2-7-1) led 21-20 late in the game when Washington kicker Chuck Nelson, who had a streak of 30 consecutive 3-pointers, lined up one from 33 yards. Cue the flying pigs — Nelson missed it. Huskies coach Don James called it the most disappointing loss of his Hall of Fame career.
- Ted Miller looks at the defensive line positions in the Pac-10, with the defensive tackles here, and defensive ends here. From the article:
Defensive tackles, in the We’ll See category:
Washington State: Another position where the Cougars might be “better than you think,” particularly if Bernard Wolfgramm can stay healthy. Touted JC transfer Brandon Rankin was impressive this spring, and true sophomore Anthony Laurenzi, a five-game starter in 2009, offers experienced depth.
Defensive ends, in the Good Shape category:
Washington State: The Cougars are sneaky good with sophomore Travis Long and senior Kevin Kooyman.
- Finally, most of you have seen this one floating around. It’s a picture from ESPN.com and Pac10.org, when the Pac-10 coaches hit NYC last week for their media blitz. All the coaches surrounded Larry Scott for a great photo op, out in front of the NASDAQ sign with the Pac-10 logo. Hmm, anyone think this picture is kinda/sorta weird?
Yes, it’s obvious there is one coach missing from the picture, and this thing has become the butt of a lot of jokes. Of course, things like “Hey Paul, can you come take a picture of us?”, you know, stuff like that. You wonder where Paul was? Well, believe it or not, HE WAS there. Thanks to “ohhmalley” at Cougfan.com, the original picture was found. Check it out:
OUTRAGEOUS! Someone decided to crop out coach Wulff, for reasons nobody really knows. Yes, Wulff was there, just like the rest of ’em. See?
Maybe they are just scared of the sheer physical dominance Wulff exhibits over the rest of the coaches?? Hey, Paul looks pretty good. He looks more fit than the last few years. Maybe he’s been hitting the new weight room with the rest of the players? At least it looks like our former O-lineman could kick the crap out of a few of these guys? At least we have that going for us…. 🙂
All for now. Enjoy your humpday, and as always, GO COUGS!
