So Near, Yet So Far

So Near, Yet So Far

Hello Followers.

Well, on a night when the defense appeared to arrive, the offense played an immature game and the Cougs fell 24-7 to Arizona.

While I do think that we all should be ESTATIC about how the defense played tonight–including BANNER performances by Kaufusi and Bucannon–the offense’s failure to convert at key moments in the third and fourth quarter was nothing short of devastating.

Consider:

1) Daniel Blackledge dropped a sure fire touchdown pass that would have first made the game 21-7 (and that turned out to matter greatly).

2) Grasu’s missed a 40 yarder that would have been HUGE considering the plays that would come.

And of course:

3) The inexplicable razzle dazzle play following our AMAZING stop on fourth and inches from the forty that KILLED what seemed like our first real chance at victory (and yes, score on that drive and I do think we would have won).

On the bright side, we did see the offensive line improve as the game went on as did Tuel. And of course, Marquess Wilson showed again how special he is.

But, here’s the final deal:

Now that the defense held someone down, the time to feel good about competitive performances is officially over.

Its time for this group to step forward and win now, because they’ve shown they can be beyond “just competitive” with some of the best teams in the country.

So, with a few unranked teams entering the fray in the next three weeks, the time has come to take the next step.

All for now. Go Cougs.
