Happy Gameday Cougs, and yes, the flags are flying down in So-Cal. Whitey and Crimson, another excellent showing.
Another great job by those on the ground. And thanks as always to Will Walker for the excellent screen caps.
So, the Coug flag on Gameday….yeah, as Deadspin reported earlier this week, the Coug fan base is pretty “dorky” or whatever. Yes, the flag wavers have a plan to get the flags on TV, more so than other people who just show up and hope to get some camera time. But whatever. Did you know this is the 99th show in a row that the Coug flag has made an appearance on Gameday? 99!?! Playbook or not, 99 times in a row is pretty impressive. You have to have some dork in you to pull that off. But we are no “dorkier” than any other fan base.
We are simply a microcosm of all college football fanbases, wouldn’t you agree? We have our die-hards who lap up all things Coug, no matter the situation. We have our fence sitters/fair weather types, who are kinda/sorta in, but will bail quickly at the first sign of trouble (note – those people hopped off after 2006 and haven’t been back since). And like any school, we have the who-gives-a-shit crowd, people who don’t know if the ball is pumped or stuffed and couldn’t care in the least.
The thing to keep in perspective here is that out of nowhere, in arguably the worst stretch of football in modern WSU history, some loyal Coug fans have hung in there with the Gameday flag experience. Gameday won’t come to Pullman, so, the idea was that they would try and take a slice of Pullman to Gameday, no matter when or where Gameday did their thing. And well, here we are. Next week is show #100, and there has been some talk that there will be something cool about it. We’ll find out next Saturday! But again, great job to those who are out there doing it, and keep up the good fight.
As is your usual Saturday norm, Grippi has you covered for all the links and stuff that is out there on Gameday.
Finally, as you may have heard by now, there IS NOT TV for this game. Not even a tape-delayed situation or anything, there just simply won’t be anything available. I guess our best bet is going to be the local news tonight, with their 15-seconds clips of the top plays, and that will be pretty much it until the FSN show runs on Wednesday. Hopefully we can get a good first-hand account of action from our own Lucas Coug, and look for that at some point tomorrow most likely.
If you are wondering about streaming options of the radio broadcast, you may be SOL on that as well. I have heard that this link has actually done WSU games in the past, and I did hear the Montana State game was on here earlier in the year. But I have no idea if it will work this week. You may just have to subscribe to the All Access deal to get a radio stream of the game, and that info is right here.
The good news? This is the one and only game of the season that won’t be on TV. They have already announced that the Cal and Oregon State games will be televised, and you know the same goes for the Apple Cup. So this is it.
We’ll have a post up after the game. All for now. GO COUGS!
